December Workshops

We know that December can be a hectic time of year for everyone, so instead of beginning a new session of language courses, HC will use Saturdays in December to provide workshops for both children and adults.  Sign up for only those workshops you or your child would like to attend.  All of the following workshops will be held at the Chinatown Community Cultural Center. Look below for descriptions and times of available offerings.

CHILDREN
On December 6th, 13th, and 20th HC welcomes all children to our Chinese craft and calligraphy workshops.  As with all our offerings, these workshops will be conducted in Chinese, and will be a fun change of pace for children while they continue to learn Chinese.  Sign your child up for one, two, or all three Saturday sessions, and get some Christmas shopping done in Chinatown while they are with us.
Age groups correspond to our present class schedules:
3-5.5 year olds (9:00-10:00)
3-5.5 year olds (1:00-2:00)

ADULTS
On December 6th, 13th, and 20th HC will hold three Chinese character workshops, but students will have the option to attend all three or just two out of the three. All three workshops are from 1:15-2:45pm and held at the Chinatown Community Cultural Center.

(December 6th)
Character Theory: This workshop is for anyone interested in the etymology of Chinese characters. If you have ever wanted to know the history of characters and why they look the way they do this is the workshop for you.

(December 13th)
Commonly Used Characters: This workshop is a crash course in Chinese literacy. Have you ever walked the streets of Chinatown and wondered what the characters along the street meant? If so, this is the workshop for you. You will also get a feel for common characters that you see in newspapers, magazines, important documents and more.

(December 20th)
Character Writing Practice Session: This session is for anyone who is interested in writing characters. Maybe you took Chinese in college and just want to refresh you writing skills or maybe you have never had any experience writing characters before. Either way this workshop is sure to get you on your way to enjoying writing characters.
